Okotoks
Okotoks is the largest and most complete town in Foothills County, with its own schools, shopping, and a genuinely walkable historic downtown along the Sheep River. It's the natural landing spot for buyers who want small-town character without giving up full-service amenities, and it consistently draws more search interest than almost anywhere else in the region.
One detail worth knowing before you assume too much: Okotoks does not have a full hospital. The Okotoks Health and Wellness Centre provides urgent care and a wide range of outpatient services, but patients needing emergency surgery or hospital admission are directed to Diamond Valley, High River, or Calgary. It's a fine tradeoff for most people, but it's the kind of thing worth knowing going in rather than discovering later.
